English Español Mexico’s state attorney Profeco and Pemex sign accord to help stop fuel theft

The Mexican office for the State Attorney (Profeco) and the state oil Mexican company Pemex have signed an accord to withdraw concession contracts from franchise owners who could be involved in illegal activities, according to a report by La Cronica republished May 20 in the website of the Mexican fuel station association Onexpo.

“Thorough this action with Pemex, “information will be exchanged and the franchise will be taken away from whoever breaks the law,” said Lorena Martinez, who heads Profeco.

The accord will give tools to law enforcers so that “concrete actions” can be taken against any franchise owner detected to be supplying less gasoline than what he or she sold. Profeco and Pemex also agreed to carry out together operations to detect irregularities with fuel sales dispatching.
