Universal Pictures’ Minions take over German gas stations

Total Germany and Universal Pictures have surprised German motorists with large Minion inflatables and promotional games at service stations, as part of the campaign for the theatrical release of “Minions”.

The previous supporting actors of “Despicable me” are hitting cinemas with their new three-dimensional movie. The partnership between Universal Pictures and fuel distributor Total saw the animated characters take to the roofs of gas stations across 24 German cities.

The campaign is expected to boost fuel sales by increasing the visibility of these stations, crowned by 50-square-meter inflatables that include messages like “A tank full of fun”, and promote the release of the “Minions” movie.

Alvern Media, specialists in petrol station advertising, were responsible for implementing the campaign.

“These inflatables take the Minions’ three-dimensional effect right to the street. The target group can experience the Minions almost live. So awareness in the public space is enormous and attracts customers to the petrol station shops as well as to the cinemas,” said Thorsten Huneke, Sales Director at Alvern Media, in a press release.

The dice-shaped inflatables and promotional games at Total gas stations, which involve users posting pictures on social networks to win prizes, will go on until June 26.
