“Credit card fraud is a nightmare that could have a long-lasting impact on a victim’s finances and credit rating,” said Governor Cuomo.

The Governor announced a new, state-wide cooperative operation to counter skimming devices installed at gas pumps.

“With this aggressive new action, we’re aiming to crackdown on this fraud before it starts by capturing these scammers in the act, and protecting the financial future of thousands of New Yorkers,” he added.

Skimming devices at gas stations has been an ongoing issue in the US for the last years. In 2013 the fuel retailing industry lost an estimated $250 million from fuel-related fraud, according to a Dow Jones News Service report.
