The militants arrived on Molai road and opened fire from the back of their trucks at motorists queuing for gas.

They also employed suicide bombers and rocket-propelled grenades in their attempt to retake Maiduguri, the birthplace of the terrorist movement, according to vanguardngr.com.

Sahara Reporters said that at least 35 people were killed while 50 others were injured.

Boko Haram now attacks ‘soft targets’ in Nigeria such as markets, bus stations, and places of worship as most of the group’s territories have been captured by the military.

The attack also comes just days after Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari declared that the government has “technically” defeated the militants.  Buhari also promised to crush the group before December 31, reported the Guardian.
