UK: Asda reveals plans for new 12-pump gas station

Supermarket and petrol station chain Asda has unveiled plans to build a large gas station at their Hereford superstore, in the West of England.

Last update:

Asda proposes a forecourt with 12 filling positions which will include outdoor payment at the pump, as well as inside the store, reported the Hereford Times.

The construction plans were submitted to the Herefordshire Council last May. However, the local authorities still have not made a decision to give the green light.

Asda feels the reception has been good and the project will go-ahead. “We recently held an exhibition presenting our plans for a new petrol filling station at our Hereford Supercentre and were delighted with the high level of positive feedback,” said a spokesman.

The British supermarket chain is currently embroiled in a crisis which threatens 5,000 jobs. Asda is considering slashing 1,000 jobs throughout its network, especially by closing hundreds of staff canteens and shopfloor services such as photo processing units, reported The Guardian.

A further 4,000 staff are in danger of moves or changes, leading to possible redundancies across the country.
