The agreement will help the state to become less dependent from imported crude oil and use cleaner and more affordable source of energy.

Hawaii Gas said, as reported by truckinginfo.com, that the state pays the highest electricity and gas prices in the country.

“With Clean Energy LNG, we will be able to diversify our gas supply using a clean fuel improving our reliability and maintaining the quality of service our customers know us for,” said Thomas Young, Hawaii Gas’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

The Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI) mandates that 40% of Hawaii's electricity will come from renewable sources by 2030 leaving 60% of the electricity to be generated from oil.
