The Phnom Penh Post further reports that the number of locations where new filling stations can be built will be restricted.

Governors have been also ordered to create no-construction zones in places where there’s an excess of existing stations, areas with unstable soil, and other reasons which they may deem justifiable for such prohibition.

Ministry spokesman Sophal Makra said that the government order is a response to several governors’ plea for stricter control on new gas stations in their jurisdictions.

These restrictions, according to Department of Mines and Energy chairman Ngy Bunly, have already been in place in the capital with technical teams conducting inspections prior to allowing construction to proceed.
