English Español Spain: Caprabo invests €4m in its gas station comeback

Barcelona-based supermarket chain Caprabo will open 10 gas stations in two years with an investment of about €4 million euros (USD 4.5m). The Spanish retailer is making a comeback in the service station business after it pulled out in 2006 with the sale of its 37 gas stations.

In fact, the first Caprabo gas station has already been operating since May and was built beside the Caprabo supermarket located along Nacional 340 Highway, Comarruga (El Vendrell), Tarragona.

A Caprabo gas station will be built next to a Caprabo store in order to achieve business synergy between a supermarket and a gas station, thereby benefiting customers, according to a company release.

The self-service gas stations, most of which operate 24 hours, are each equipped with two fuel dispensers that pump affordable and high-quality fuel products including Gasoil A and Super95.

Chargers for electric and hybrid vehicles would also be installed.

Caprabo, a subsidiary of retailer Eroski, operates a network of supermarkets and grocery stores in the autonomous regions of Catalonia and Navarra.
