The partnership is part of UPS’s strategy to increase the number of lockers from nine in Chicago to 300 nationwide.

The alternative and convenient delivery locations will be initially available in the rest of Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington State, and in the future will include California, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Texas.

According to a company release, the smart locker program aims to make it easier for online retailers to increase sales and improve the shopper’s online experience.

“UPS Access Point lockers can be easily accessed when it fits the shopper’s schedule, giving an online retailer added value to present at checkout. The lockers enable more shoppers to enjoy the ease and simplicity of buying online,” said Kalin Robinson, director of the UPS Access Point locker program.

Aside from self-service lockers, UPS also has more than 8,000 UPS Access Point locations at local businesses across the United States and more than 24,000 UPS Store® locations that offer extended evening and weekend hours worldwide.
