According to Korea Bizwire, CU has tied up with luxury karaoke business Su Karaoke to launch the first-ever karaoke convenience store in South Korea.

The two companies built a karaoke-themed building completely designed with bright lights and disco balls and the latest K-pop music played on the background.

The building’s ground floor houses the CU store which sells more than 1,000 food and beverage items not offered at conventional karaoke bars.

Launched in early July, the outlet located at Hongdae Street of Youth has been a huge success receiving an average of more than 1,000 customers daily.

CU’s partnership with other businesses including restaurants, drug stores, and banks is part of the strategy of BFG Retail, CU’s parent company.

“Convenience stores are rapidly changing into multi-functional platforms by collaborating with other industries. We’ll continue to experiment with different enterprises to both increase our revenue stream, and provide convenience to our customers,” said Tak Hyun-wook, director of development and planning at BGF Retail.
