The maxi taxi, or minibuses, is the latest addition to public transport vehicles that use CNG in the South American country.

Thirty five buses of the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) already run using CNG, and the use of the natural gas is receiving wider support from the Association of Maxi Taxis of T&T (AMTTT).

Diamond Motors is also set to launch its first CNG-powered heavy-duty trucks on August 26.

CNG has made the country’s public transportation eco-friendly and generated approximately TTD 850 million (USD 12 million), said NGC CNG president Curtis Mohammed.

NGC CNG, a subsidiary of the National Gas Company of T&T Limited, has been promoting the use of CNG in the country and opened a CNG supply point at St. Christopher's Service Station in Port of Spain.

More CNG supply points are expected to be installed at a number of service stations in the country.
