Walmart Canada makes peace with Visa

Walmart Canada to start accepting Visa payments after months of dispute over the price of transaction fees.

Last update:

After six months of not accepting Visa cards at Walmart stores around Canada, the retailing giant will allow the credit card provider back into its system.

“We have come to an agreement with Visa which allows us to continue offering Visa as a form of payment in our (Canadian) stores. Customers in Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario, will be able to use their Visa credit card starting January 6, 2017,” said Walmart in a statement.

Last July, Walmart announced that it would no longer accept Visa cards at its stores, arguing that the company already paid $100 million in fees to accept credit cards every year, and higher fees would harm its business.
