Libya rolls out prepaid fuel cards to solve cash crisis
Drivers in Libya can now use a prepaid fuel card instead of cash at gas stations as the country faces a major cash crisis.
The Fuel and Gas Crisis Committee of the National Oil Corporation’s (NOC) Brega Marketing Company is launching a prepaid fuel card to provide cash-less customers with means of payment, reports Libya Herald.
The political, social and economic crisis that Libya is suffering has now produced severe cash shortages. Banks have implemented monthly cash limits, with many customers joining long overnight queues trying to get their money out.
Brega´s new fuel card, which has previously been launched by Libya Oil, allows customers to top-up through certified checks and pay for fuel.
Apart from the fuel card, intended to help those that don´t have a debit or credit card, Briga is also rolling out a number of POS machines at gas stations to accept bank card payments.
