The collaboration between the two companies aims to make fuel cell vehicles more accessible to the public and boost hydrogen fuel infrastructure.

Projects like this can receive financial support from the California Energy Commission.

“This kind of collaboration between government and industry is central to making hydrogen a reality. It’s a great opportunity to encourage a growing number of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the roads and support the carbon reduction goals of the State,” said Shell's Hydrogen General Manager, Oliver Bishop.

Shell and Toyota have been involved in various projects which support the development of hydrogen fuel network.

Shell is part of a cross joint venture, H2 Mobility Germany, which aims to expand hydrogen refueling stations in Germany. It also operates two hydrogen stations in Los Angeles, California.

Toyota entered into collaborations with Air Liquide and FirstElements Fuel to support the construction and operation of hydrogen refueling stations in California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
