Dubai aims to become global clean energy hub
Dubai is beefing up its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in line with its efforts to become a smart, integrated, and connected city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world.
Under the second phase of the Green Charger initiative, Dubai Electriticity and Water Authority (DEWA) will double its EV charging stations to 200.
DEWA is setting up fast charging stations at petrol stations, medium chargers at shopping malls, parks, and Dubai Government customer service centres, and wall-charging stations, according to a company release.
The availability of infrastructure will encourage the public to use hybrid and electric vehicles.
Government organizations, in fact, have received a directive that at least 2% of their vehicles must be hybrid or electric from 2016 to 2020.
"The Green Charger initiative contributes to the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to transform Dubai into an international hub for clean energy and green economy. It also supports the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy to reduce carbon emissions by 16% by 2021,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
