Austria: OMV bets on EVs with charging point acquisition
OMV may be about to enter the electric vehicle charging business with the acquisition of Smatrics.
Austrian energy and gas station group OMV is considering the acquisition of a 40% stake in Smatrics, a company that distributes charging points for EVs, owned by hydropower firm Verbund and Germany's Siemens, reports Reuters.
Smatrics manages around 400 charging points in Austria, which Verbund supplies with green power. The company also manages the installation of charging points in petrol stations or supermarkets.
"Verbund has green power. OMV has a lot of infrastructure. It basically is a logical combination to try to contribute a little to the reduction of CO2," OMV's downstream chief Manfred Leitner
The companies did not disclose the purchasing price of the operation.
