Considered as Africa's largest open-access LPG terminal, it is set to boost gas distribution opportunities and contribute to energy security in South Africa.

The facility's throughput capacity of 200,000 metric tons of LPG per year is expected to address gas shortages in the Western Cape province and facilitate LPG supply to the market.

It will also drive greater competition in the LPG industry resulting in cheaper and cleaner source of energy.

The LPG facility is a public-private partnership between Mining, Oil & Gas Services (MOGS) and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

Sunrise Energy, according to its website, is owned 60% by MOGS which is majority owned by Royal Bafokeng Holdings. Thirty one percent of Sunrise Energy is owned by the Industrial Development Corporation.
