UK: Sainsbury's to install 100 Argos pick-up points

Sainsbury's boss Mike Coupe has announced plans to install Argos click-and-collect points in up to 100 convenience stores before the Christmas period.

British supermarket chain Sainsbury´s is latest retailer to build bridges between the online world and brick-and-mortar stores. They will install pick-up points where shoppers can collect the goods purchased on the online and catalogue retailer Argos, reports the Chronicle Live.

After Sainsbury´s acquired Argos last year, the company now wants to push its presence across its stores to fend-off competition from Amazon. The ultimate goal is to have 2,000 Argos points of presence in Britain.

“We would argue very strongly that with the 2,000 points of presence, the great Argos digital capability and the supply chain that backs that up – and the fact that those businesses have access to 27 million customers a week – it gives us a reasonably powerful combination to compete in future,” explained Mike Coupe.

Sainsbury’s currently has 100 Argos “stores within stores” and plans to increase that by 50 before Christmas as the battle for festive shoppers begins.
