UK: Shell to open first “no-petrol” service station
Royal Dutch Shell will open its first “no-petrol” service station in the UK next has part of its shift towards cleaner energy.
The new Shell stationswill be located in London and is expected to offer drivers biofuels, electric vehicle charging points and hydrogen cell refuelling, while there will be no place for diesel and petrol pumps, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Pumps will not be the only environmentally friendly part of the station as solar panels will be installed in the building and on the forecourt roof to power the site.
Shell has made a clear shift towards alternative fuels with plans for three hydrogen cell refuelling stations in the UK this year, and plenty of positive talk about installing EV charges at Shell stations. The no-petrol site representes another step in that direction.
Later this year Shell plans to roll out high-speed electric vehicle charge points across a selection of its 400 UK service stations.
