‘Electric Highway’ expands into London with 30 new electricity pumps
Ecotricity’s ‘Electric Highway’ charging network will expand into London in the first half of 2018 with 30 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers installed on petrol stations.
The energy company is teaming up with Motor Fuel Group (MFG) to install Ecotricity electric pumps on MFG’s Shell, BP, and Texaco branded service stations in the city.
It is now time to install more EV chargers in major towns and cities after having established a charging network along highways.
“The day is coming where charging an electric vehicle will be no different to what we’ve come to expect – just popping to a forecourt to refuel,” said Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity and the Electric Highway.
MFG welcomes the possibility of offering more energy sources to customers.
“The growth of the electric and hybrid vehicle market is an important part of the fuel mix going forward,” said Jeremy Clarke, MFG’s chief operating officer.
The Electric Highway, launched by Ecotricity in 2011, has now powered almost 50 million miles of emission-free electric driving. It taps on wind and solar energy to supply drivers with almost 1,300 MWh of electricity.
