BMW vows to power business with 100% renewables by 2020
BMW announced its plans to switch to 100% clean energy by 2020 at the United Nations Climate Conference in Bonn, Germany, reports Bloomberg.
The German carmaker is already tapping alternative energy sources such as wind turbines at its plant in Leipzig, Germany, and methane gas from a landfill in South Carolina.
However, to meet its target and provide electricity to all its 31 production sites in 14 countries, it would need to secure a local supply of clean energy, said BMW head of procurement Markus Duesmann.
In addition, BMW head of sustainability strategy Jury Witschnig said, in an interview with Bloomberg, that it will seek more supply deals with solar energy providers.
