Frech oil giant Total will open between 80 and 100 branded gas stations in Mexico this year as part of its expansion plans for the country, reports Notimex.

Last update:

Together with its Mexican retailing partner, Gasored, Total expects to open 10 to 12 gas station a month in 2018, according to Alexandre Duret-Proux, General Manager of the company in Mexico.

Duret-Proux also said that Total would develop a network of 250 branded service stations over the next two years that will spread throughout Mexico, as competition from international fuel retailers increases while local operators invest heavily in modernizing sites.

The Energy Regulating Commission has estimated that the number of gas stations in Mexico could double in the next years, following the liberalization of the fuel market by President Enrique Peña.  There are currently 11,774 sites active in the country.
