German carmakers reveal ‘futuristic’ electric car chargers’ design
IONITY, a joint venture of BMW Group, Daimler, Ford Motor Company, and Volkswagen Group with Audi and Porsche, has unveiled the design concept for its Pan-European High-Power Charging Network in time for this year’s Geneva International Motor Show.
The Munich-based joint venture aims to establish the most powerful fast charging network in Europe with a target of launching approximately 400 high power electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2020.
IONITY has formed strategic partnerships with petrol stations Shell, Tank & Rast, OMV, and Circle K to roll out the charging network on major thoroughfares in more than 10 European countries.
Aside from rapid and high capacity (up to 350 kW) chargers, IONITY believes that design along with innovation, customer experience, and safety will be the driving force of e-mobility in the future.
IONITY, in a press release, said that the charging stations resemble beacons with crisp, simple structure, and smart interfaces that offer seamless charging experience. The station’s architecture conveys an open, light and warm sense of space.
