UK: BP stations unable to take card payments

A glitch leaves BP fuel stations around the UK unable to accept card payments during three hours on Sunday evening.

Last update:

Around 19:00 yesterday, BP took to social media to inform that many of its sites were having issues with card transactions.

“Our UK retail sites are currently unable to take card payments We are working to rectify this as a matter of urgency & would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused our customers. The majority of our sites are accepting cash payments but a few stations have shut,” informed the company via Twitter.

BP, which has 1,280 sites across the UK, said it still didn’t know the origin of the glitch.

Motorists across the country faced panic at the pumps after BP fuel stations reported problems with their card payment machines.

Motorists were asked to use on-site cash machines to withdraw money, while other BP filling stations closed altogether to minimise the problem

After three hours BP informed that all the stations were now working as usual. “BP can confirm our sites have returned to normal service and are now once again accepting card payments.”
