Malaysia: Petron converts 600 petrol stations into emergency centers

Petron Malaysia has turned all its gas stations to “safe zones” for the public to get assistance during emergencies such as crimes or accidents.

Last update:

Malaysian fuel retailer Petron has launched the Go To Safety Point (GTSP) initiative turning more than 600 gas station into emergency basic response centres, reports the New Straits Times.

Petron station dealers and key managers are trained by cops to help victims before the police arrive.

“We want to make it clear that if anyone faces any emergency, especially victims of crime, they can go to any Petron station to seek help,” said Faridah Ali, Petron retail business head, at a press conference on July 18.

Ten large installation arts have been set up at Petron stations to inform the public about the new initiative.

The GTSP initiative was introduced by the police in 2013 by making a 7-Eleven convenience store and post office as their partner.
