Malaysian drivers will soon be able to use their digital wallet to pay for petrol and goods at Petron service stations around the country. Starting with almost 200 sites, the service will gradually be rolled out nationwide.

According to WeChat Pay Malaysia chief executive officer Jason Siew, the collaboration with Petron looks to “encourage” growth of cashless payments in Malaysia, reports Marketing Interactive.

“We will continue to strategically expand our collaboration for WeChat Pay to provide greater flexibility, access and choice for customers while enabling an easy and safe payment experience,” he added.

The collaboration was made possible by payment solutions provider Revenue Monster, the first appointed merchant acquirer of WeChat Pay in Malaysia to facilitate WeChat Pay transactions.

“We are confident that customers will enjoy this new, safe, easy and convenient e-wallet shopping experience,” said Petron Malaysia’s head of retail business Choong Kum Choy.
