Last update:

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is charged with protecting the public from the harmful effects of air pollution and developing programs and actions to fight climate change. From requirements for clean cars and fuels to adopting innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, California has pioneered a range of effective approaches that have set the standard for effective air and climate programs for the nation, and the world.

Clean Cars

Cleaner cars mean cleaner air. But with more than 24 million passenger cars registered in California, we need to continue the shift from cars that burn only fossil fuels to the ever-increasing number of the very cleanest, most efficient cars available. California has ambitious goals: 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles on its roads and highways by 2025, with millions more in the following years to ensure the state meets its air quality and climate goals.
