The NRMA is Australia's largest Member organisation, providing a range of services for our Members and the community, including roadside assistance, International Drivers Licences, car reviews, a diverse range of motoring, travel and lifestyle benefits, as well as products and services.

The NRMA is driven by the desire to keep people moving. With roadside assistance at our core, we've been helping people for more than 90 years. Now, as our world changes, we're reimagining the way people move - your car, your journey and your destination.

The NSW branch of the National Roads Association (NRA) was born in February 1920 and in 1923 became the National Roads and Motorists' Association (NRMA). From the outset, we looked for ways to improve road conditions for motorists. In 1924 the NRMA Patrol service began. The 1950s heralded the beginning of a huge surge in the number of cars on the road and we hit one million Members in the 1970s, and by the late 1980s that number had doubled.

In addition to looking after Members on the road, we were also becoming known for standing up for motorists. In 1982, we worked with the NSW Government to improve road safety by introducing random breath testing, and in 2001 we fought hard to have the fuel excise capped – saving motorists about 10 cents per litre today.

We've also been at the forefront of making more equitable licensing, the demerit system fairer, school zones safer, road funding is at record levels, and every petrol price increase is carefully scrutinised.

NRMA demutualised in July 2000. As independent organisations, NRMA Insurance and NRMA Motoring & Services, we continue to work closely together and proudly share our brand.
