Fuel quality directive 6% GHG can now be implemented: FuelsEurope

FuelsEurope, which groups 43 companies operating refineries in the European Union, said that a key proposal related to 6% reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in transport fuels has “passed its final scrutiny hurdle” in the European Parliament.

Last update:

“After five years of debate and analysis, an implementable proposal emerged to meet the quality directive article. Now that all three EU institutions have approved the proposal, member states can implement the measures and hundreds of fuels suppliers can plan on how they comply with this challenging market which must be achieved within five years,” the group's general director Chris Beddoes said, according to a FuelsEurope statement released December 17.

FuelsEurope said that its members account for almost 100% of EU petroleum refining capacity and more than 75% of EU motor fuel retail sales.
