Car wash businesses in Sao Paulo victim of severe drought

Severe water shortages in Sao Paulo, Brazil, have led people to make extreme efforts to conserve water and among the businesses affected the most by this situation are car washes, Reuters news agency reported February 12 from this city with a metropolitan population of 20 million.

Last update:

The water shortage is so bad that the government is contemplating the possibility of ordering a rationing of water which could close water pipes for as many as five days a week, the report added.

Car wash businesses were identified in the report as one of the hardest hit industries in an environment where people are already hoarding water in case a rationing is ordered.

“There is uncertainty over the drought and its consequences on jobs, public health and overall quality of life,” the report added. Authorities have said that they expect rains will come later in February or in March. Once heavy rains start the problem will be over.So far there has not been any rationing.
