Wawa on the brink of selling beer

After a long approval process which started earlier this summer, Wawa is closer to selling beer after the Concord Township Board of Supervisors in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, voted in favour of granting a conditional permit for its locations sites in Chadds Ford.

Last update:

Fuel and food retailer Wawa still has to await approval from the state of Pennsylvania, which has issued similar permits to Acme, Whole Foods and Wegmans in the past, according to NACS Online.

The store will have to be redeveloped with a separate 400-square-foot space dedicated to beer sales and consumption, which includes a cooler and seating for 30.

Customers will be able to buy a maximum of two six packs of beer, and will have to purchase the beer before it is consumed. Consumers will only be allowed to drink one beer per day while seated in the café. Wawa is to install signs in the café to remind customers of the restrictions.

Wawa´s location is open 24/7, but the permit only allows beer sales between 8 AM to 10 PM from Sunday to Thursday, and 8 AM to 11 PM for Friday and Saturday.

Finally, the board has required that employees enlist in the state´s Responsible Alcohol Management Training Program (RAMP).
