More than 800 Spanish gas stations offer diesel under €1

Spanish drivers are ending the holiday period encouraged by low fuel prices, especially for those who use diesel fuel, which is being sold for less than €1 ($1.10) a litre in more than 800 service stations.

Last update:

Data provided by the European Commission for the price of fuel reveals that diesel is set at an average of €1,106 a litre –16% lower than the same period last year.

Of the more than 800 gas stations serving diesel at less than €0.99 a litre, most of them are in the Northeast region of the country, with many in Cataluña and Aragon.

However, the cheapest diesel can be found in the Canary Islands, with a service station in La Matanza de Acentejo (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) selling diesel at €0.75, reported El Confidencial.

Low fuel prices are a current international trend powered by collapsed Brent oil prices in the world market. In addition to this, the increased number of ‘low-cost’ gas stations across Spain has aided lower rates.

In comparison to the rest of Europe, Spain is presently offering one of the cheapest diesel rates, as well as unleaded, while the United Kingdom continue to sell the most expensive diesel in Europe at €1.615 ($1.82) a litre.
