Engen set to expand service station network in Mozambique

Engen are to expand their fuel retailing network in Mozambique with plans for three new service stations in two major cities.

Last update:

African energy multinational Engen will build one service station in Maputo, and two others in Inhambane, following an aggressive expansion campaign. They currently operate 16 gas stations across the African country.

“We’re just waiting for approval from the relevant local authority,” said Mike Cook, Retail Services Manager in Engen’s International Business Division, commenting on the new Maputo station.

“Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2016. The flagship site will have a full convenience offering including an Engen Quickshop with a sit-down Corner Bakery,” he added.

In Inhambane, construction of one of the stations started in August, while the second will be a knock-down revamp to bring the old installation to the company´s current standards. Both are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Engen plans to maintain an aggressive expansion and development strategy throughout 2016, according to Drikus Kotze, General Manager at the company´s International Business Division.

“There’s a possibility of four new sites in the works, and we plan to integrate the Corner Bakery franchise more fully throughout our existing footprint of sites, whilst also upgrading our forecourts and convenience shops in Mozambique,” he said.

The company also plans to expand their activities through the rest of the continent. Engen currently operates in 18 countries in Sub Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.
