Morrisons to open c-stores at gas station network

British supermarket chain Morrisons is to launch pilot convenience food stores in five gas stations owned by Motor Fuel Group (MFG).

Last update:

The five stores will be branded Morrisons, having own and third-party food products delivered through the Morrisons logistics network.

“As we said at our recent interim results, we want to consider new opportunities to Serve Customers Better in the convenience market where the capital commitment is low and the Morrisons resourcing is light-touch,” said David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons.

The announcement comes only a month after Morrisons decided to sell its c-store network to Greybull Capital for around £50 million due to negative results over the last year.

“This pilot in Motor Fuel Group filling stations will allow us to trial one opportunity in this growing channel,” added Potts.

MFG has 373 stations operating under the BP, Shell, Texaco and JET fuel brands. This makes them the second largest independent forecourt operator in the UK.
