Nigeria suffers severe fuel shortages

Nigerian motorists are becoming desperate after days of fuel shortages across the country, with long queues forming outside any gas station supplying fuel.

Last update:

Throughout the weekend many gas stations had to shut down due to scarcity, and those which remained opened witnessed long queues – some motorists had to wait between four and six hours to fill-up, reported Vanguard.

Due to the gravity of the shortages some operators are incurring in malpractices such as selling above the official fuel prices or locking their tanks during the day and selling to the black market during night time, according to the news source.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has insisted the stock of petroleum products is enough, but operators have maintained their scepticism with reports of local refineries being incapable of providing full nation supply, according to All Africa.
