Cooking classes held at Alabama convenience stores

A number of convenience stores in Alabama are going to promote healthy food by organizing cooking classes with the Wellness Coalition.

Last update:

The convenience stores will fill shelves with fruit and vegetables as they offer tips on how to cook meals with those ingredients, reported the Montgomery Advisor.

The Wellness Coalition, in partnership with the Centers for Desease Control, had already stocked convenience stores which had no access to non expensive fresh health food with vegetables and fruits.

The cooking classes will be given by people with experience in cooking healthy ingredients but they will not be professional chefs.

“The idea is to demonstrate how regular people can eat healthier using the items you can find right there in the store,” said Sara Byard, REACH program coordinator with the Wellness Coalition.

Depending on the success of the program, the organizers will decide if to extend it to other parts of the country.
