The new store called Sobeys Express was officially opened on December 17 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and is part of a new Shell station on Highway 104 at Exit 33, according to The Chronicle Herald.

The c-store will carry traditional convenience items but will focus on fresh-food options as there is a growing consumer demand for healthy alternatives.

"Rotisserie chickens and freshly made salads aren't your typical convenience-store fare, but based on our customer research, we know customers want better choices when they are on the go, and Sobeys Express stores will set us apart from the traditional convenience retailers in this regard," said Valerie Ryan, vice president of convenience and fuel at Sobeys Atlantic.

The store will also carry sandwiches, hot soups, freshly-baked croissants, cookies, and baguettes similar to those being offered at Sobeys and Foodland grocery stores.

Sobeys, a wholly owned subsidiary of Empire Company Ltd, owns or franchises around 1,500 stores under retail brands namely Safeway, IGA, Foodland, FreshCo, Thrifty Foods, and Lawton's Drug Stores.

Sobeys Express will also give two-cents-per-liter discount on fuel purchases and Air Miles reward miles on pump and store purchases.
