The declining number is mostly seen in the rural areas where many independent petrol stations are located, of which a third of them have already closed, according to Petrol Retailers Association.

Meanwhile, the number of electric vehicle (EV) chargers has doubled to 150 in the previous year, according to motoringresearch.com.

Electric chargers have been well accepted, said Dan Rose-Bristow, co-owner of Torridon Hotel, a hotel equipped with a regular charger open to the public and free of charge and two Tesla superchargers.

Electric car sales in Scotland was also significant last year with 1,278 electric cars sold, “more than in the previous four (years) combined.”

The current EV trend in the country would surely help Transport Scotland achieve its plans to phase out petrol and fuel vehicles by 2050.
