According to CSP Daily News, this is not the first time Dollar General is venturing into retail fuel business. In October 2013, it tied up with Gainesville, Georgia-based Mansfield Oil to launch its first fuel station at the Dollar General Market in Hanceville, Alabama.

Aside from plans to expand in the gas station industry, the retailer will also increase its offering by selling fresh meat and produce in the bigger retail space of the newly acquired sites.

It plans to relocate 40 existing Dollar General outlets into the purchased sites by October 2016, according to a company release.

“Dollar General is excited to add these locations to our existing store base. We look forward to the opportunity to better serve our customers in these communities by continuing to provide the convenience and value they expect from Dollar General,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s chief executive officer.
