Total acquires two fuel terminals, 100 sites in East Africa

Oil company Total is expanding its business in Africa through the acquisition of assets from Gulf Africa Petroleum Corporation's (GAPCO), including a large network of gas stations.

Total has acquired the assets of GAPCO in Kenya, Uganda and Tanazania, consisting on two logistical terminals in Mombasa, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, as well as a retail network of around one hundred service stations.

“This acquisition is in line with Total's growth strategy for the distribution of petroleum products and services in Africa, which aims at expanding in fast-growing regions while maintaining high profitability,” explained Momar Nguer, President, Total Marketing & Services.

Total is the leading petroleum product retailer in Africa, with a network of more than 4,000 service stations. The company aims to grow its market share from 17% in 2015 to more than 20%.

Of the acquired fuel stations, 67 are in Tanzania, 32 in Uganda and 9 in Kenya.
