Amazon revolutionizes retail with cashier-free store
E-commerce giant Amazon is reinventing the brick-and-mortar store by opening the first ‘Amazon Go’. The store located in Seattle, Washington has no cashiers so customers can just go there, grab what they need, and leave.
Amazon Go uses “Just Walk Out” technology, which is similar to the ones used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning algorithms, explains Amazon’s website.
It also has the capability to monitor products being removed and brought back to the shelves and keeps track of the goods purchased through a virtual card.
To be able to access Amazon Go, clients need to have an Amazon account, a smartphone, and the free Amazon Go app.
The 1,800-square feet 'smart' convenience store offers ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack options, and grocery staples including bread, cheese, and chocolates.
Currently in Beta program, it is exclusive to Amazon employees. It will be open to the public in early 2017.
