English Español UK: New fuel labelling regulations come into place

E5 and B7 are the new names for petrol and diesel.

Last update:

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) is urging retailers to ensure that they are prepared for the new fuel labelling regulations which are now in force from September 1.

These new regulations legally require additional labelling to be introduced on all fuel dispensers and nozzles in all UK filling stations by 1st September 2019 and aim to help drivers identify fuels and reduce misfuelling.

“The key message for staff to communicate to consumers is that there has been no change to the fuel they put in their vehicles – this is just a new way of identifying fuel,” said ACS chief executive James Lowman.

Under the new changes E5 in a circle means petrol and B7 in a square means diesel. By April 2020, all vehicles produced in the UK will have E5 or B7 labels on their fuel caps.
