English Español India inaugurates 201 CNG filling stations

With the new GAIL group’s locations, the Indian Government aims to reach smaller cities and town across the country.

The Government of India has inaugurated 201 compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations across the country, report several media. The new locations are operated by GAIL, a government owned natural gas corporation responsible for natural gas processing and distribution in India.

Speaking on the ocassion, Union Minister for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan, also announced the commencement of piped natural gas (PNG) supply in Jhansi and the launching of mobile refuelling units (MRYs) for vehicles at Raigad. The MRUs inaugurated belong to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and Mahanagar Gas Limited.

Until now, CNG filling stations and PNG supply were only available in metropolitan cities. With the new GAIL group’s locations, the Indian Government aims to reach smaller cities and town across the country.

According to the Minister, India has committed to achieve 15% share of natural gas in the primary energy mix by 2030.
