Sinopec to spend US$4.6 billion over five years to promote hydrogen
The energy giant plans to set up 1,000 hydrogen refuelling stations with 200,000 tonnes of annual refuelling capacity.
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has unveiled a multibillion yuan plan to build the nation’s largest supply chain for automotive hydrogen.
It plans to become China's largest company to produce hydrogen for use as a transportation fuel, targeting annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes of hydrogen refuelling by 2025.
"Sinopec will expand forcefully into making hydrogen from renewable energy, and zero in on hydrogen for transportation fuel and using green hydrogen for refining," said acting Chairman Ma Yongsheng, as reported by Reuters.
The goal for the hydrogen supply chain and utilisation initiatives is to avoid the emission of 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year by 2025.
