English Español Shell to open Hong Kong’s first service station with fuel and charging

The site will be located at the airport cargo terminal and is scheduled to open on June 30 to offer drivers a total of 16 fuelling positions as well as four EV charging points.

Shell has plans to roll out Hong Kong’s first service station that combines traditional fueling with EV charging. The company hopes to capitalise on the rising usage of EVs in the city and to advance on its plans to become a net zero emissions energy business by 2050.

According to a report by local news site South China Morning Post, the new site is scheduled to be opened by June 30 at Hong Kong’s International Airport’s cargo terminal. The forecourt is set to be the firm’s biggest facility in the city, with 5,000 square metres. It will be equipeed with 16 refuelling positions as well as four EV charging points.

“This sees Shell become the first mobility solution provider in Hong Kong to offer an inclusive EV charging network, with charging facilities in both car parks and gas and oil stations, to meet a wide range of customer demands,” stated the press release from Shell cited by the media outlet.

Currently, the Hong Kong market of service stations consists of a total of 183 sites, according to a recent report by the Consumer Council. Shell is the third company operating in the city, with 41 stations, while Esso and Sinopec occupy the rest of the top three, with 43 and 50 forecourts respectively. The rest of the brands that operate in the city are Caltex, with 32, and Petrochina, with 17.
