Last update:

The Government of Egypt announced the launch of a digital platform for oil fuel and natural gas management at service stations. The new service is part of a wider integrated programme for the digital transformation of the fuel infrastructure in the country.

The Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El Molla, specified the details of the initiative during the official announcement. According to a report by local news site Zawya, El Molla declared that this is the first of a series of digital services to provide an integrated system for the management and follow up of the supply of fuel using a smart card instead of coupons.

The public official detailed that the new method ensures a safer transportation and circulation of petroleum products as well as preserves the rights of the contracting parties thanks to the data stored in the card. This involves specifying the type of fuel used in vehicles, controlling balances of value and quantities and creating periodic reports to help decision-makers of contracting authorities. The system is now available at 400 petrol stations throughout the country.

The system will be rolled out in cooperation with the e-finance company, which announced that 8,000 POS terminals were made available at Misr Petroleum’s gas stations. This is also part of the transformation process to offer electronic payment service at the stations and a number of different financial services through the deployment of the technology.
