English Español TotalEnergies launches “smart charging” tech across the Netherlands

The new technology is based on an algorithm that tracks the activity of charging facilities and redirects energy based on power availability and demand.

Last update:

TotalEnergies has launched a new “smart charging” technology deployed at public electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the Netherlands. The company will roll out the technology throughout its 13,000 locations throughout the country.

Based on an algorithm that tracks usage, power availability and demand, the tech is programmed to redirect solar and wind energy to the stations. According to a report by local news site change.inc,  it tracks the number of vehicles charging at the same time, how long they have been connected, total power needed, availability of green energy and the grid status.

Whenever there is high availability of sun or wind energy, charging station capacity is increased. Thanks to this, EVs can charge faster and more efficiently while cars that have been charging for a long time can be the first to receive less energy when power is scarce.

TotalEnergies currently operates 13,000 charging points, most of them located in North Holland, Flevoland, Utrecht, project office MRA-Elektrisch and the province of Friesland.
