Z Energy continues EV charging roll-out across New Zealand

The retailer aims to establish EV chargers at 20% of its service stations by the end of this year.

Z Energy has announced plans to expand its on-the-go charging network for electric vehicles (EVs). By the end of this year, the company aims to have EV chargers available at 20% of its service stations across Aotearoa.

Z has plans to install the equipment at nearly 40 different sites, with large bays so that drivers can charge their cars more easily. The brand is also committed to improving the charging experience through well-located and simple to use chargers, as well as letting drivers have access to all the offerings of the usual service station experience.

The company seeks to meet the rising demand for EV charging by establishing three or four charging bays at its highest-use service stations to ensure queuing is kept to a minimum.

“Charging an EV should be as simple as filling your car up with petrol. This roll-out is our commitment to EV drivers. It’s us saying, ‘We want to make the charging experience as good as possible’. We’ve always said we’ll support customers in how they move around Aotearoa, and this is part of that. We’re in it for the long haul,” said Kieran Turner, Head of EV charging at Z Energy.

Chargers will be installed in urban areas for drivers who are unable to charge at home or for those who need an on-the-go top-up. Z’s big focus will be on creating and connecting key transport networks, ensuring that EV drivers can travel the length of the country with the ability to charge along the way.
