English Español Kum & Go stores will be converted to Maverik across four states

Locations to be rebranded include territories where the buyer already operates and will unify both chains under one banner.

Last update:

This week Maverik completed its acquisition of c-store chain Kum & Go. After announcing the transaction back in April, now the firm and its parent company, FJ Management, will decide on the brand’s future across the US.

Chuck Maggelet, CEO and Chief Adventure Guide at Maverik, discussed with NACS what the branding strategy will be moving forward. The company representative specified that they are “still figuring that out” but confirmed that several Kum & Go stores will be converting to its buyer’s convenience store brand in the near future.

“In Utah, Colorado and Idaho, with select test sites in Wyoming, starting this January we’ll be working to convert those stores to Maverik,” specified Maggelet. This accounts for approximately one third of the chain’s network.

Regarding the remaining two thirds of Kum & Go’s footprint, Maverik’s CEO  commented that they are thinking about what they can bring from their brand to the newly acquired franchise “without necessarily rebranding”. “We’re really enthusiastic about the strength of our technology stack—our lead hitter is our own point-of-sale system,” he added.

Both companies operate a network of 400 stores each, and the purchase has expanded their total operating area up to 20 states.
