English Español Repsol will supply SAF to Atlas Air and Inditex cargo flights

Atlas Air's flights for Inditex from Zaragoza airport will use sustainable aviation fuel produced by Repsol.

Last update:

Repsol has begun supplying sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Atlas Air for the cargo flights that this company performs for Inditex from Zaragoza airport.

Since the beginning of November, Atlas Air has been using 5% SAF on all its flights. The agreement makes the New York-based company the first cargo airline to use SAF on a regular basis on its cargo flights in Spain.

The initiative is in line with the companies' commitments to achieve their respective carbon footprint reduction targets.

In turn, it positions them to meet early compliance with ReFuelEU Aviation regulatory measures, which require the use of 2% renewable fuels by 2025, 6% by 2030 and 70% by 2050, respectively.

"With the upcoming commissioning of our new advanced biofuels plant in Cartagena, we are ready to supply the industry with the SAF it needs to realize its decarbonization ambitions," said Óliver Fernández, International Aviation Director at Repsol.

The agreement also aims to boost local production of SAF, both in terms of refining capacity and the supply of nearby raw materials, with the goal of reducing the aviation sector’s greenhouse gas emissions.
